David R. Stokes's Townhall.com Column

David R. Stokes (www.davidrstokes.com ) is a minister and broadcaster. He currently serves as Senior Pastor of FAIR OAKS CHURCH in Fairfax, Virginia (a href="http://www.fairoakschurch.org">www.fairoakschurch.org ) following previous pastorates in Texas, Illinois, and Long Island, New York.

He grew up in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan. Following high school he began training for the ministry. In addition to his early Bible College and Seminary work he eventually furthered his education with secular degrees in History (Bachelor of Science) and Political Science (Master of Arts - Long Island University - C.W. Post College).

He is a passionate student of history (particularly the 20th century Presidency and Cold War). He has written for The Cold War Times (published by The Cold War Museum - a Smithsonian affiliated institution) and has hosted a podcast for the museum.

His involvement with broadcasting began the production of a news program on his Bible college radio station in Springfield, MO - and continued down through the years mostly related to his church work.

For the past few years he has been expanding those horizons as a frequent guest-host sitting in for regular talk-show programs in New York City (WMCA), Columbus, Ohio (WRFD) and Washington, D.C. (WAVA - all Salem Communications stations).

In October 2007 he began hosting his own weekly 2-hour show - "DAVID STOKES LIVE" now heard Sunday nights across North America on XM Satellite Channel 170 (Family Talk) from 9:00 - 11:00 p.m. (eastern time). DSL is also heard locally in the Washington, D.C. area on WAVA - 105.1. fm - and is streamed live via the Internet @ www.wava.com . It is now on Salem Communications Satellite - as plans are in process for syndication in selected local markets across the country.

DSL features commentary and conversation - as well as listener calls. Recent guests have included, Ken Blanchard (author of "One Minute Manager"), Toby McKeehan ("TOBYMAC"), Deborah Norville (host of "Inside Edition"), Dinesh D'Souza (author of "What's So Great About Christianity"), Jerry Jenkins (of the "Left Behind" series), Jonah Goldberg (author of "Liberal Fascism"), Robert Spencer (author of "Religion of Peace: Why Christianity IS - and Islam ISN'T"), and Cal Thomas and Bob Beckel (co-authors of "Common Ground: How to Stop the Partisan War that is Destroying America"). Information about the show can be found at: www.davidstokeslive.com .

He also shares a daily 2-minute commentary called "BELTWAY BLOG" on XM Satellite Channel 170 (Family Talk) Monday-Friday at 5:01 p.m. (eastern) as well as on WAVA 105.1 in Washington (this version airs a few minutes later at 5:13 p.m. as well as at www.wava.com ).

David and his wife, Karen, have been married for nearly 32 years and have three daughters, and four grandchildren - with the fifth on the way (spring 2008). They make their home in Fairfax, Virginia.
